Riverside Delights: A Family Tour to Padma Bridge and Mawa Ghat

Embarking on a family tour is always filled with anticipation and excitement. Our journey to Padma Bridge, a marvel of engineering in Bangladesh, began on a Friday afternoon. Opting for a microbus, we set out on a journey that would create lasting memories.

As Friday is a day of significance, we paused our journey briefly to offer the Jumma prayer. Resuming our trip, we found ourselves cruising along the Dhaka-Bhanga expressway, the first expressway in Bangladesh. The allure of the highway and the joy of a road trip filled my mind with delight.

Despite encountering a higher road toll, the anticipation of reaching Padma Bridge overshadowed any inconvenience. The prospect of crossing the mighty Padma river on a 6.15 km-long bridge, a testament to our country's engineering prowess, added to the thrill.

Approaching the bridge, we rolled down the windows of our Microbus, allowing the cool breeze from the river to touch our faces. The view from the bridge was nothing short of breathtaking, offering a unique perspective on the landscape.

Having crossed the bridge, we reached Bhanga roundabout, a convergence of roads from different directions. The picturesque setting prompted us to capture the moment with a few photographs, preserving the beauty of our journey. Here, we indulged in Bhelpuri, a popular Bangladeshi snack, before heading back towards Mawa ghat. The return journey included another traverse of the Padma Bridge, allowing us to appreciate its grandeur once more.

Arriving at Mawa ghat, renowned for its Hilsha fish, we couldn't resist ordering a grand-looking Hilsha. The feast included bhortas from Hilsha tail, onion, taki, and dry fish — a culinary exploration of local flavors.

Post a hearty meal, we ventured to the ghat for a boat ride over the mighty Padma. Despite being late in the evening, a stroke of luck presented itself in the form of a waiting speedboat. Seizing the opportunity, we embarked on a memorable ride.

The speedboat gracefully sliced through the river, embracing us with a chilling wind that carried the essence of freedom. As we sailed further, the iconic structure of Padma Bridge emerged on the horizon, beckoning us towards its grandeur.

The boat's engine hushed to a stop as we positioned ourselves beside the bridge. From this unique vantage point, Padma Bridge presented itself in all its magnificence, a testament to human engineering and innovation. Captivated by the view, we seized the moment, capturing snapshots that would forever immortalize our journey beneath this architectural marvel.

The Padma Bridge Against Evening Backdrop

With the boat's engine revving once more, we bid farewell to Padma Bridge, its colossal presence fading into the distance as we ventured back towards the ghat. The return journey carried with it a sense of fulfillment, having experienced the bridge not only from above but also from the tranquil waters below.

Transitioning from boat to microbus, our return journey commenced, taking us back towards Dhaka. The memories of the wind-kissed river, the towering structure of Padma Bridge, the culinary delight, and the camaraderie shared on the journey echoed within us as we traveled.

As the city lights of Dhaka gradually illuminated the horizon, we realized that our journey had come full circle. The journey beneath and above Padma Bridge had etched itself into our memory, a testament to the beauty of exploration and the joy found in discovering the world from a different perspective.

In the end, our family tour to Padma Bridge was not just a physical journey but a captivating odyssey filled with culinary and scenic delights, creating a tapestry of cherished moments for us to treasure. Arriving back in Dhaka, we carried with us a profound memory, a story written in the ripples of the river, the hum of the boat engine, and the silhouette of Padma Bridge against the evening sky.
